i have this question...a bit scientific, bt treat it as a question:
i've read many shairies... and all the shayars compare their love wid moon... or they want moon, but land up wid stars (something of tht sort, hpe u understand). so my question is - moon doesnt has light of its own, it reflects the light frm sun n other stars. Not tht moon is jst one in da whole universe - many planets hv many moons (jupiter, saturn). On the other hand, stars have their own light... they support nuclear fusion, something which is not feasable on earth. So they do more work (literally :)), and hence are better... they why not be happy with stars??? jst coz they r large in number? ab unme zyaada talent hai, aur they r gud enuf in number, isme unki kya galti hai???? bechaare, they r jealous of this moon... which does nothing, bt still gets a veryyy spcl place in shairies. I agree that a nite without moon looks bad, bt a nite without these stars is worse still... PLS DO JUSTICE :(

He he... good question:) Though dil ke maamle mein science and logic always go for a toss but still I'll try my level best to clarify your doubt.
Look it this way... Stars are like just companions.. numerous and distant enough... but moon, no matter where you go, how you treat it, would be moving around you only and leaves such an impact that it can even bring life on earth (High tides and Low tides) ... Its not about how night would look without any of these but how you'll overcome darkness(lows in your life). Moon takes you through all that scary darkness [Remm there were no Halogens earlier :)] and all stars can do is make fun and confuse you if you are trying to locate your path in the desert if you try looking at them... Hope this answers your question:)
[PS: Everything stated above is "CRAP". Fact is both are equally important. Even stars play an important role... "Tumhaare liye taarey tod laoonga" and all such fundae indicate the same. Both the left eye and the right eye are dear to you regardless of which one is more. And as a matter of fact Eid ka chaand with a star at its centre is a real natural beauty (happens rarely).
I think you got the sher wrong... Here it's actually Tuta taara (Meteors that enter earth's atmosphere and not the real star)
Tarey toot te rehtey hein very frequently... so the sher meant My fate doesn't allow me even a Tuta taara (despite it happeneing so frequently) and I like an idiot long for the Moon :)]
